In this video, I share five tips and tricks to get the most out of your miter saw and turn it into your favorite tool!

The most basic but important tip is where we begin: making sure your saw is set up correctly. You'll learn how to use a square or digital angle finder to ensure your saw cuts at a perfect 90 degrees. Then, I will show you how to check if your saw cuts straight.

Here are some other helpful tips you'll learn in the video:

1) Use the right blade for the job. For fine woodworking, a blade with 60 to 80 teeth is ideal.
2) Cut slower and avoid pushing the blade forward at its deepest point on a sliding saw. This will result in cleaner cuts, especially for veneered plywood.
3) Create a zero-clearance fence and insert to eliminate tear-out on the back of your cuts. You can use MDF, plywood, or even a 1x4 for the fence, and zero-clearance tape for the insert.
4) Use blade deflection to your advantage for perfectly fitting miter cuts. Here's how: cut your workpiece a little long, press it gently against the side of the blade (not the flat of the blade), and raise the blade to take a small shaving off. Repeat this process until the piece fits perfectly.

By following these tips, you'll be able to make accurate and clean cuts with your miter saw, and turn it into one of the most versatile tools in your workshop!
