"Indicator fly fishing" is a term often used to describe a method of fly fishing where anglers use a visible indicator, such as a brightly colored yarn, foam, or plastic bobber, attached to the leader to track the drift and detect strikes. Unlike traditional dry fly fishing where the angler watches the dry fly on the surface, in indicator fly fishing, the indicator is used to suspend nymph or wet flies at a specific depth in the water column while they drift with the current. When the indicator twitches, pauses, or dips underwater, it signals a strike, allowing the angler to set the hook and catch the fish. This technique is particularly effective in deeper or faster-moving water where fish are feeding below the surface.
