Join my main hunting dog, Pace, and our new pup, John, and me as we embark on an exhilarating adventure deep in the backcountry of the South Island, New Zealand. Today, we’re on the hunt for a wild pig—a species introduced to these shores that has no natural predators. This makes our pursuit not only a thrilling food-gathering exercise but also crucial for preserving our native biodiversity.

I will be dispatching the pig and field-dressing it with just a small Baco knife as shooting the pig can result in giving the dog muzzle blast or even causing it injury only carrying a rifle for backup. Our goal is to harvest every bit of organic meat, leaving behind only the spine, skin, and head. This intense journey will span 14 hours, covering 16.8 km of untamed wilderness from the moment we leave the truck until we return.
Feel the adrenaline rush as we navigate rugged terrains, relying on the keen senses of Pace and the growing instincts of John. Experience the raw beauty of New Zealand’s wild landscapes and the primal excitement of the hunt. This isn’t just a hunt; it’s a mission to protect our environment and a testament to the bond between hunter and hound. Don’t miss out on this epic backcountry adventure!
