Hiker's Knee, or Runner's Knee is pain around the kneecap resulting from overuse. Here, for your reference, I present what I believe is the reason I don't suffer from it.

Though I can't guarantee these exercises will cure or prevent this ailment for everybody, these are easy exercises that anyone can do, which if practiced regularly will certainly improve the strength and resilience of your knees.
