The Irish Grouse is an old pattern. It is listed in Ray Bergman's Trout on page 434 and pictured on Plate #4. It is a simple pattern with no tail or tag. I think it is a pretty fly in it's simplicity but it makes a great fly for a beginning tier who wants to get into tying wet flies. It has a simple floss body with a gold rib. The hackle is palmered on the backside of the rib and the wing is simply some Peacock herl. It makes a great searching pattern as it can resemble all sorts of different food types depending on where and how you fish the Irish Grouse. - Enjoy
