The species Euphorbia thymifolia is a plant native to Brazil and many Latin American countries. In Brazil, this herb is better known as "Quebra-Pedra-Rasteiro" and "Quebra-Pedra-Roxo".

The creeping stonebreaker grows spontaneously in cracks in sidewalks and in sandy soil and in full sun. This herb is used in folk medicine in many countries because of its varied therapeutic properties, including in countries where this herb was introduced.

Studies carried out with Euphorbia thymifolia extracts confirm many medicinal activities and that the plant is a good nutritional source because it contains minerals, vitamin C and beta-carotene (source of vitamin A).

Scientists also evaluated the toxicity of this herb and concluded that the plant does not cause damage to health, as no symptoms were found, no organ damage, no changes in blood and urine tests and there was also no mortality in the tested mice.
