Once upon a time there was a country, and its name was Yugoslavia. Serbian director Emir Kusturica attempts to tell the story of that former, troubled communist state through the lives of two friends and the actress that stole their hearts.

A bittersweet comedy with an injection of madcap slapstick violence, Underground is a genuine tour-de-force, an energetic roller coaster scored with a memorable polka brass band.
