Description: This video is designed to give intermediate kayakers an idea of what it's like to run the Lower Gauley river. It's my PFD (personal first descent)! This classic run is a great step-up run for confident class III boaters. It features big water, strong eddylines, huge holes, and tons of fun. There are many undercuts and sieves to avoid, and given how long the rapids are, a swim isn't much fun. We prioritized safety, but chose to run some less traditional and slightly tighter lines.

I've tried to call out the relevant hazards, and comment on my own paddling in the video. This is not intended to be instructional, but rather to give the viewer my perspective as I run the river. Please call out any mistakes, incorrect references, or other areas of improvement in the comments.

I hope you find this useful, and hopefully I can see you on the river!
