White Chicks is a 2004 film directed by Keenan Ivory Wayans and starring Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans as two black FBI agents who transform themselves into white women to trap a kidnapper. It's stupid, but its meant to be; stupid movies can be great. The real problem I have with the movie is that we're constantly told that the rest of the cast think the Wayans look like the spitting image of the two women they're meant to be, and they don't. They really don't. They really don't look like anything.

So I can't suspend my disbelief, but I do understand why some might find the rest of the movie entertaining - it's silly and obviously doesn't take itself too seriously, although personally I find a lot of it way too cringey and badly acted, and way too flat, to have any appeal even on a beery day. It's not even valuable as a movie to shout at and make fun of with friends as the rest of it really isn't terrible, just quite standard.

In the video I say it came out in 2003, but it did in fact come out in the summer of 2004. I read that the film wrapped in 2003, so that's why I made the mistake.

White Chicks seems to be a film that has been quite forgotten, but it was a box office hit. Rumours of a sequel have been floating around since 2009, but nothing has as yet come to pass, so the glory of the Wayans in race and gender drag might have to be confined to this one venture. But who knows?
