President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. witnesses the signing of the 2024 Department of Justice - National Prosecution Service (DOJ-NPS) Rules on Preliminary Investigation and Inquest Proceedings in a ceremony at the Kalayaan Hall in Malacañan Palace on July 10, 2024.

The signing of the 2024 DOJ-NPS Rules on Criminal Investigation promotes various reforms in achieving a strong collaboration between the Executive and Judiciary Branches through a more robust and responsive legal system in the country. This institutionalizes the executive and inquisitorial nature of preliminary investigations by bringing them at par with historical and legal precedents reinforcing the authority of the Justice Department.

The 2024 DOJ-NPS Rules on Preliminary Investigation and Inquest Proceedings give prosecutors the power to lead criminal investigations that ensure proper and sufficient case build-up before filing in court. With the signing of these new rules and procedures, all Filipinos, including the accused, are guaranteed fairness and due process, and hold the guilty accountable.
