In this episode Edward Stow discusses the parallels between the very public mistakes made by the police in the recent and tragic Nicola Bulley case, and the way the police behaved during the Jack the Ripper murders. Edward Stow specifically examines the resignation of the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Sir Charles Warren and an important interview given by Inspector Helson of Bethnal Green's J Division of the Metropolitan Police after the murder of Polly Nichols. It is vital to comprehend what Helson said in this interview to be able to understand what happened during the police investigation in the vital first few days after this murder... and of course this has a huge impact upon the case against Charles Lechmere, in showing that he is easily the best suspect to be the man known to history as Jack the Ripper.

With thanks to Mike Pemberton for the colourisation of the Charles Lechmere photograph.
