Spanningtree Protocol (STP)
STP is a network protocol used in Ethernet networks to prevent loops in the network topology. Loops can be problematic in Ethernet networks because they can lead to broadcast storms and other issues that can disrupt network communication.
STP works by creating a loop-free logical topology within a network of interconnected switches.
The STPs are now standardized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
#ieee It is now referred to as STP (802.1D)
