A thin fishing line can be as sharp as a razor. As the seal's body grows, the line tightens and slices into his skin. With every movement, the line cuts deeper. The seal faced a bleak future, trapped in a race between starvation, suffocation, or infection - one he was always destined to lose. Even small, lightweight objects like plastic straps, bags, or fishing line can be deadly to large, otherwise healthy animals. Some of our seals have been lucky enough to get help on the beach, but the majority of entangled marine animals suffer and perish unnoticed.
