Louis XIV (Louis de Bourbon) was born on September 5, 1638 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye and died on September 1, 1715 in Versailles: he lived 77 years.

He is the son of Louis XIII and Anne of Austria. It belongs to the Bourbon dynasty.

He became king on the death of his father Louis XIII on May 14, 1643: he was then five years old. He was crowned on June 7, 1654 at the age of 16 in Reims. He will reign for 72 years, 3 months and 17 days. His successor will be his great-grandson Louis XV.

His title will be King of France and Navarre. He is nicknamed The Sun King.
