Tennis Technique Showdown: Full Swing vs Semi Swing vs Return Swing
Every tennis player should work on and master three different swings for their forehand and backhand groundstrokes:
1. The full swing
2. The semi swing
3. The return swing

Each swing will be used at different times in the point.
And if you try to use only one swing, you'll be missing out or potentially ruin your timing.

When should you use each swing?

The full swing can be used around 60% of the time. This swing is your normal, full loop that can help you achieve maximum power from your swing.
This works great when time is not an issue and you have enough of it in order to do a full loop without being late for the contact point.

The semi swing can be used when you're rushed but not so badly that you can't have a semi swing. This is perfect for when defending or taking the ball on the rise.

The return swing can be used when returning or dealing with extremely fast balls. Typically you'll see the pros use a return swing mainly when returning faster, first serves or when they're defending and have no time for a semi swing.
