BYD on Tuesday unveiled the first supercar under its premium off-road electric vehicle brand called the Fangchengbao Super 9, which promises maximum performance and luxury with a bold design - the latest example of Chinese automakers stepping up and competing in the high-end segment. The all-electric hypercar concept, dubbed the Super 9, comes standard with a space shuttle-style cabin with carbon fiber racing seats and a futuristic design without a windshield, making the two-seater an open-top model. Wolfgang Egger, BYD's chief designer and former Audi design chief, said during the livestream that the interior is "one of the best places in the world to experience the highest level of emotion and speed." Further specifications and pricing information were not revealed at the event, although the automaker said it will showcase the full line-up, including the Bao 5 and two other upcoming offerings - a flagship hybrid SUV and an all-electric concept crossover. - at this year's Beijing Auto Show next week.
