Mustard (Raya) or Canola Crop Harvesting time identification;


In this video, I will try to explain the harvesting method of oilseed crop such as Mustard crop harvesting, Raya crop harvesting or Canola harvesting. Time of harvesting mustard crop will also be explained. Post harvest care of mustard, Raya or Canola seeds will also be elaborated in detail.
First of all, look at crop plants and pods, if 70 to 80 percent pods have changed their colour in case of mustard and raya, crop can be harvested but before this decision, we must also check the seeds colour. If seeds colour is still green, we should not harvest our mustard field. When seeds have changed their colour from green to brown or black, crop is ready for harvesting.
Canola crop is harvested when 50 to 60 percent pods have changed their colour.
Post harvest care:
When mustard, raya or Canola crop has been harvested, then plants are kept in field for 3 to 5 days for removal of extra moisture or to dry the plants and pods before threshing. At threshing day, plants are collected near to thresher on cloth sheet in order to decrease wastage or in order to minimize the grains loss. This plant collection time is very important as negligence at this stage can cause wastage of our seeds grains. Early in the morning, this activity should be performed as post harvest care.
