The program starts with Dan Novak’s report on new research suggesting that the sun’s magnetic field forms much closer to the surface than scientists had thought. The finding could help predict periods of extreme solar storms like the ones that hit Earth earlier this month.

Jill Robbins reports on changes to protect the natural beauty of Japan’s Mount Fuji and the safety of people who want to climb it. Starting on July 1, people will have to buy tickets as officials aim to reduce crowds and littering. The new rules also limit the number of climbers to enter a trail daily.

For Science & Technology, Bryan Lynn reports that the European aerospace company Airbus has fitted a special truck with airplane controls to test self-taxiing abilities. The move comes after several incidents of airplanes crashing on the grounds at airports around the world. The testing truck is equipped with LiDAR technology that can measure distances and produce three-dimensional (3D) maps of the surrounding environment. Bryan then tells Ashley in the studio that one of the main goals of the project is to help pilot during taxiing operations.
