Know what's awesome for the cool fall weather here in Chicago? Cognac! No, not the sad, sugared-up, watered-down specimens from the big houses, I'm talking the good cognac from smaller producers and negociants. One of said smaller negociants is Grosperrin, a producer long in good standing on our little channel. And yet despite doing a ton of their cognacs over the years - most recently at    • Cog/Armag/nac: Fillioux N. 83, Pomès-...  , but also at    • 6 Old Cognacs: Grosperrin '83, '82, '...   and with my beloved cheap af Borderies at    • Cog/Armag/nac: Fillioux N. 83, Pomès-...   - I've never done a video devoted entirely to their offerings.

Today it's happening, and it's a bit of a tour through the region: the Bois ordinaires (specifically the Île d'Oléron just off the coast), Petite Champagne, and a Grande Champagne thrown in for good measure. Stats:

Grosperrin Bois Ordinaires Île d'Oléron Cognac N°90, Lot N°1065 (bottled circa 2022, circa 32 years old; 46.4% ABV), 84/100
Grosperrin 18 Year Old Bois Ordinaires Île d'Oléron Cognac, Lot N°1120 (from the 2004 harvest, bottled 2024; 51.9% ABV), 85/100
Grosperrin 1992 Petite Champagne Cognac, Lot N°359 (bottled circa 2019, circa 26 years old; 46.3% ABV), 87/100
Grosperrin 12 Year Old Petite Champagne Cognac, Lot N°1066 (Sainte-Lheurine; bottled circa 2022; 50.9% ABV), 85/100
Grosperrin Grande Champagne Cognac N°90, Lot N°932 (Verrières; bottled circa 2021, circa 30 years old; 54.8% ABV), 89/100

The 932 is just a beast: power and flowers, exactly what you want from a serious Grande Champagne. In a lot of ways it reminds me of exactly what I loved about that Frapin '94 from awhile back (   • Small Sample Roundup: Capreolus Apple...   ). The 359 can't quite hang with it, but the development is to die for. Meanwhile the 1120 and 1066 are both killer values, the former being more woody and dark and the latter a bit more fruity and friendly; and, while the 1065 doesn't have quite as much going on it's also soft and joyous and delicious.
