An entity dubbed the Portuguese States of Africa, an unbroken chain of Portuguese territory, spanning southern Africa from its Atlantic coast all the way to the Indian Ocean, connecting Angola to Mozambique was envisaged in this Mapa Cor-de-rosa or famously, the Rose-Coloured or Pink Map. Unfortunately the Pink Map conflicted with the British “Cape to Cairo Red Line''. Aspirations of the Brits cut right through Portugal’s ‘future’ mega colony.
