On Saturday 9th December 2023, the final Open Day for 2023 was held at the DownsSteam Tourist Railway and Museum, where the recently restored BB18 ¼ 1037 ex Mackey and the "Pride of Toowoomba", C16 106, took pride of place for visitors and members to watch as they performed several demonstration runs up and down the yard.

As if that wasn't enough excitement, at just after 12 noon, the Downs Explorer from the Southern Downs Steam Railway in Warwick pulled into the Drayton platform with a train load of passengers where they enjoy a 2 course lunch in the DownsSteam Dining Carriage and enjoy what was on offer before the train departed at 2:30pm for its return to Warwick.
