In this video, you'll see the parts of Sydenham Station that will open to passengers when Sydney Metro services start next year.

This includes the new Railway Parade entrance, the metro platforms, and the remainder of the Aerial Concourse.

On 10 December 2023, Sydney Metro held a community open day, so myself and other members of the public could come and view all the new bits!

I start with the Railway Parade entrance plaza, which includes a large secure bicycle storage facility, and some plaza artwork called "Notes on Sydenham" which is by local artist Agatha Gothe-Snape.

It's then through the Opal gates for a good look at platform 1, which is one of the 2 new Sydney Metro platforms. You'll also see the Shunt Neck track which runs alongside the Northern Services Building.

I then head over to the Sydney Metro part of the Aerial Concourse that has not yet opened to the public. From here, you get amazing views of both metro platforms, as well as other parts of Sydenham Station.

Throughout this video, you'll hear from Hugh Lawson, the Project Director for Sydney Metro City & Southwest, as he explains how this station will work as the interim terminus. And he also talks about the artwork, platform screen doors, segregation fencing and much more!

And at the end, Hugh and I reveal the journey times between each station from Sydenham to Chatswood.

Accuracy
I do my best to make the commentary in these videos as accurate as possible by checking facts on the internet and other sources. However, sometimes the information isn't available, so I'll use my railway knowledge and insight to explain something to the best of my ability. If accuracy is important, do check the comments, as other viewers will often pick up on things I've missed or any mistakes made. Also note that for older videos, things may change over time, causing some of the information to become out of date.

Construction Sites, Maintenance Facilities and other Private Property
All footage of construction sites, maintenance facilities and other private property is taken from a public vantage point. The only exception is if it's an open day or I have special permission to access the site. The iPhone's small lens and zoom function makes it easier to film through small gaps in hoardings or fencing, so it may look like I'm on site when I'm not! If you would like to know the exact filming location, then ask me in the comments.
