DJI OSMO Pocket 3 10Bit 4K Cinematic (Plus low light test)
It’s been 3 years. Finally we have the DJI Pocket 3. I thought DJI would never gonna bring out the Pocket 3. But there you go. And this time, it’s not just like the GoPro Hero 12 with a minor upgrade. It’s huge upgrades. First we get an 1” sensor 20mm f/2.0 lens. And it doesn’t stop there. We get 10bit colour. Something that we don’t even have it on the Sony ZV-1 M2. Plus we get a real gimbal. A build in gimbal is a real deal. I mean nowadays digital stabilization works really well. But when it comes to lowlight situation. Digital stabilization just doesn’t keep up. You get crazy motion blur. So having a real gimbal is way better.

Okay let’s talk about the image. This is the important part and I gotta say. The 4K image is stunning. And It’s like a proper camera now. It doesn’t look like phone or webcam sort of footage. I think you can really use it for a professional shoots (But I am not sure if the clients would be happy about it 😆)

So everyone is going to compare this Pocket 3 to the Sony ZV-1 Mark II, so let me break it down. For image quality, they are very similar. Since they both using 1” sensor. But there are few key differences between the two. First if you are going to use the camera for photography. Then the Sony is the clear winner. It has a 20 Megapixel sensor. But if you going to do video mostly. Then Pocket 3 might be the better choice. First we have a real 3 Axis gimbal, and the camera shoots 10Bit upto 120p in 4K. And the Sony ZV-1 M2 only max out in 4K 30p. But the ZV-1 M2 does have an optical zoom from 18-50mm f/1.8-4.0. So you have to pick which one is more important to you. Optical zoom or 3x Axis gimbal. Also the Sony has a removable battery and the video auto focus is more stickier compared to DJI Pocket 2.

During the test, I had to keep my shutter speed at 1/100 as possible, as the pocket 3 NDs aren’t available just yet. So I did the video mostly around the sunset time and night time. And I found that the lowlight performance is a lot better than the pocket 2. But it wasn’t as good as the Sony ZV-1. Maybe the f/1.8 does make a bit of different.

Overall, I think DJI did a great job on this one. I haven’t had so much fun with a camera for so long. This pocket 3 truly made me wanna keep using it.
