June 5 marks the start of Bald Faced Hornet season. This nest is only the size of a golf ball and still only has a single wasp in it--the queen.

It had 13 eggs which would have hatched and pupated within 2-3 weeks so these are about to explode in growth. From now until mid July they will go from golf ball to softball. From mid July through the end of August they will get up to the size of a 5 gallon bucket (the large ones at least)
