Ruth Mountain is a great climb with spectacular 360 degree views from the summit at 7,115 feet. Mt. Baker, Mt. Shuksan and other North Cascade peaks are frequent sights, and the hike up to Hannegan Pass is lovely at any time of day.

I did the ~4k feet of elevation and ~12 miles round trip from the trailhead in a day. Conditions were good and while I used crampons, I could have gotten by without them as the snow had softened up by the time I got to it (I had my ice axe, but didn't end up needing it, thankfully).

There were two other people descending as I started up the snow (looks like they had camped below the glacier (you'll see their tents), but I had the mountain basically to myself until I was almost off the glacier. Next time, I'll probably make it an overnight to have a more leisurely climb and catch sunset and sunrise.

I climbed Ruth Mountain (not to be confused with Mt. Ruth) in July 2023. It was a good adventure, and I'll definitely be back to climb her again when I'm back in peak climbing shape.
