Exactly 43 months after it was put in place, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt have ended the brutal land, sea and air blockade they had unleashed on Qatar since 5 June 2017.
What at first appeared to be a clear victory over Qatar turned into a clear diplomatic defeat. Three and a half years after imposing the blockade, it has been lifted without Qatar fulfilling a single one of the demands made. On the contrary, Qatar's current ties with Turkey and Iran are much closer than in 2017.
But how did Qatar achieve such a victory? What has the blockade on Qatar done for Middle Eastern politics? Why was it suddenly lifted at the beginning of 2021? In this video we answer all these questions.
