At the beginning of Resident Evil 4, a former police officer named Leon S. Kennedy is sent on a mission to rescue the U.S. President's daughter, Ashley Graham, who has been kidnapped by a mysterious cult known as Los Illuminados. The cult has taken Ashley to a remote village in Spain, where they plan to infect her with a mind-controlling parasite known as Las Plagas.

As Leon investigates the village, he discovers that the villagers have also been infected with the parasites and are under the control of Los Illuminados. Leon meets a helpful merchant named The Merchant who sells him weapons and items that will help him survive.

As Leon makes his way through the village, he encounters the cult's leader, Osmund Saddler, who has also been infected with Las Plagas. Saddler reveals that he plans to use Ashley as a vessel to spread the parasite to the United States government.

Leon eventually rescues Ashley and escapes from the village, but they are pursued by Los Illuminados. Along the way, they discover that the cult has a secret laboratory where they are experimenting with the parasites.

In the lab, Leon and Ashley encounter a scientist named Ada Wong, who is working undercover for an unknown organization. Ada reveals that her organization wants to obtain a sample of Las Plagas for research purposes.

Leon and Ada team up to infiltrate the cult's main stronghold, where they confront Saddler and his henchmen. In the final battle, Leon and Ada defeat Saddler and destroy the laboratory, but Ada is seemingly killed in the process.

In the aftermath, Leon and Ashley are rescued by the U.S. government and returned to the United States. However, it is revealed in a post-credits scene that Ada survived and is working with her organization to track down a new bioweapon threat.

The remake of Resident Evil 4 is expected to follow the same storyline, but with updated graphics, improved gameplay mechanics, and potentially new content.
