I use 3/8" round stock. These are going to be 16" legs. I cut them at 34". Make sure you give yourself extra length, they get cut after being bent anyways.
To bend them I built a platform with a piece of 3/4" round stock to bend the legs around. The handle has another piece of 3/4" round stock welded to it with a piece of tubing with an inside diameter of 3/4" to slip over the round stock on the platform.
Bend the legs with an extra inch. I bent them here at 17". This is because as its being bent it pulls towards the bend. You don't want them to be too short!
I use this Fixture to cut them at the right length. You can get the same results by laying them on a table and measuring from the bend straight down and marking them. Then use a cut off wheel or a hacksaw.
Next grind off any burrs or mill scale.
These are the moI built a fixture to hold the legs at the exact length and angle that I like. A fixture for these isn't necessary but does help a lot.unting brackets that I make. They are made from 1"x1/8" flat stock.
I cut one side at 4 3/4" and drill a hole 1/2" in from each end. The other side is cut at 3 3/4" with a hole 1/2" in from only one side.
I cleaned up all edges and places where welds will be placed. After this I grind the weld flat. Just mark the spots you want it to be tacked to. Tack them and bend into the angle you like. Do the same with the other legs and make sure all angles match.
All that's left now is to weld them out!
