An important part of routine RV maintenance is ensuring that the outside of your camper is in great shape. RV water damage can be catastrophic. But there are ways that you can prevent any leaks in your RV - and that is through routine maintenance!

We have two things that we do regularly to ensure that our camper remains in great shape.
Roof Inspection and Touch Up
RV Wash and Wax

First, we start with the RV roof on which we painted Henry Tropi-Cool roof coating. We initially painted the roof with Henry Tropi-cool in June 2021 as part of our motorhome remodel. Since then, we have kept tabs on how well the silicone sealant has done, especially in places where we painted it over Eternabond tape.

This involves cleaning the roof with a simple rag and cloth and rinsing it down with water. We use WD40 to help remove sticky pine sap from our solar panels and then look for places where we may need to spray the Henry Tropi-Cool Stop Leak to cover areas where the initial sealant may be peeling up.

Second, we wash the outside of the RV using a basic wax-free auto soap. Then we go back over the whole outside with Zep Wet-Look Floor Polish. Because we initially applied the Zep Floor Polish in June 2021, we only do 2 coats each year to keep the RV looking bright and shiny, but also to protect it from things like bugs and scratches from tree branches and bushes.

Note, before you re-polish your RV you will need to initially strip any old wax and residue using Barkeeper's Friend Powder Cleanser. The initial Zep Wet-Look Floor Polish will then need to be applied with 4-5 coats.

After this initial polish, you can do what we do in this video, which is to apply only 2 coats to renew the wax on the RV.
