In today's video, I discuss the broody, rude, bad-boy attraction in pop culture, especially in Asian media. It was inspired by the countless "Your attraction for toxic men started when you chose x over y" memes all over my TikTok FYP.

An exhausted character profile many of us are familiar with, the 'bad boy' is one of the most popular -- if not the top -- tropes for male leads in media for decades. In a way, it taps into our biological attraction to things and people that we want to nurture, root for, and support. We constantly project our hopes, dreams, and desires onto these characters and relationships because they reflect our innate need to connect on a unique level, no matter how flawed or distressed we think we are. When we see this in pop culture like books, movies, or any form of media, and while we know that these situations are fictional, we find ourselves yearning for the same experience in real life. But what sounds exciting and stimulating on paper (or onscreen) doesn't really translate well in real life.
