Some people say It is better to use a fine grain sand, but salt works just fine for me. Avoid using any sand that is too powdery. Basically, you want to find sand with a consistency very similar to salt. I use salt to fill the balls because it is inexpensive and easy to find.

After you have made a set of balls, there is a chance the air pressure inside of them might change due to changes in elevation or temperature. If the balls seem deflated, there is an easy way to fix this. With a very fine point pin or needle, poke a small hole somehwere on the ball to regulate the pressure. This will also help the balls last longer, because there won't be as much pressure pushing on the inside walls of the ball every time it hits the ground.

If you don't want to bother with glue, you can seal the balls with electrical tape. Instead of cutting a flap on top of the ball, make a small, straight incision along the seam of the ball. After filling the ball, simply wrap electrical tape around the seam of the ball. This also gives the ball a neat little decorative stripe. This is super quick and easy.

Lastly, I meant no harm by implying the stereotype "Russian people are good at juggling." I know stereotyping is bad :( I just honestly couldn't come up with a good "Russian balls" related joke for this tutorial... and there ARE a lot of mighty fine Russian jugglers out there.
