In the serene landscapes of Canberra, over a span of two days, our team at DCS had the humbling opportunity to delve deep into the soul of the OzHelp Foundation. The poignant journey of its inception, sparked by the untimely loss of young David O’Bryan, a building apprentice, resonates profoundly even 23 years later.

Through this documentary, we've captured touching interviews, sharing the core essence of OzHelp's founding story. A special emphasis was given to Lorraine O'Bryan, David's mother, whose resilient spirit and determination to create a change in the aftermath of a personal tragedy led to the birth of OzHelp. As we approach the 20-year mark since the foundation's inception, capturing Lorraine's narrative was pivotal, providing a unique lens into the past, present, and hopeful future of OzHelp.

The tragic spate of suicides in the ACT building and construction industry, particularly David's loss, acted as a catalyst, forging an unprecedented alliance between Loraine O’Bryan, the Master Builders Association (MBA) ACT, and the Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union ACT Branch (CFMEU). This collaboration, fueled by shared compassion and concern, laid the groundwork for OzHelp's establishment.

This documentary sheds light on the comprehensive initiatives of OzHelp, from Toolbox Talks, which encourage mental well-being discussions, to broadening their services across multiple industries. The journey of OzHelp, its impact, and its continuing aspirations are eloquently chronicled, reminding everyone of the importance of mental well-being and community support.
