BOOK REVIEW: Septology is a novel by Jon Fosse, a Norwegian author recently awarded the Nobel Prize in literature. So what is Septology about? The novel is split into 7 parts across 3 books (The Other Name, I Is Another, & A New Name), and it's written in a stream of consciousness style from the perspective of an artist contemplating his art and his life, as well as God and religion and love, while continuously encountering a doppelgänger and other people who may be versions of each other. My review is from the POV of an artist and an atheist. I read the Damion Searls translation, even though my native language is Norwegian. This video is not great literary analysis, it's just a guy talking about a piece of culture he enjoyed.

Jon Fosse briefly taught Karl Ove Knausgaard, another giant among Scandinavian writers. Beyond writing prose, Fosse is the most performed Norwegian playwright after Henrik Ibsen. Some of his major influences include Vesaas, Beckett, Bernhard and Trakl.
