Walī (Arabic:الولي, Wali Allah or Walīyu 'llāh), in Arabic means 'one who is trusted' or 'protector', the general meaning of being 'Friend of Allah' in the sentence walīyu 'llāh. The Qur'an explains Waliallah means a person who believes and fears. "Remember that the true guardians of Allah have no worries for them nor do they grieve. Namely those who believe and they are always cautious." (Jonah 10:62 - Al-Furqan in the book Majmu'atut Tauhid p. 339)

From Abu Hurairah he said: had said Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam: "Verily Allah has said: Whoever is hostile to my Wali, I have actually declared war on him, and not a servant of mine draws closer to me with something of worship that I love more than what I have made it obligatory on him, and always a servant of Mine draws closer to Me with sunnah practices until I love him. If I love him, I will be as his hearing with which he hears, and as his sight with which he sees, and as his hand with which he acts, and as his foot with which he walks. And if he asks (something) of Me I will surely give him, and if he seeks protection from Me I will definitely protect him.
