Welcome to our YouTube video on the Jivdhan Fort Trek in Junnar, Pune!
Join us on this adventurous journey as we explore one of the most challenging treks in Maharashtra.
Standing tall at 3754 feet above sea level, Jivdhan Fort offers breathtaking views and a rich historical significance.

The trek starts with a glimpse into the history of Maharashtra, where the Satvahan dynasty built trade passes and forts in the Sahyadris. The Naneghat trade route, connected by the Satvahana kings around 250 BC, played a crucial role in the region's commerce. Jivdhan Fort was strategically built to protect this ancient trade route and was heavily guarded during those times.

As we ascend, we discover the intriguing history of the fort. All entry points on forts built by Shivaji Maharaj feature the 'Kalas' symbol and a carved idol of Lord Ganesh. Jivdhan Fort, located near Naneghat, played a significant role in overseeing the trade pass. It was even used as a prison for the last emperor of Adilshahi of Ahmednagar, Murtija Nizam, who was later released by the father of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The fort's geographical features add to its allure. With two main gates, Kalyan Darwaza and Junnar Darwaza, the fort offers different entry points with their unique challenges. The rock-cut steps and the panoramic views of the Konkan region are truly captivating. Exploring the fort, you'll come across water cisterns, granaries, and even the ruins of a fallen temple dedicated to Goddess Jivaidevi.

The highlight of the trek is the Vaanarlingi pinnacle, a famous rock formation frequented by rock climbers. From the top, you can feast your eyes on the magnificent landscapes of Nanacha Aanghta, Harishchandragad, Ratangad, and more.

The trek can be approached from two routes: Naneghat and Ghatghar. While the Naneghat route is more challenging and suited for experienced trekkers, the Ghatghar route provides a comparatively easier ascent. Whichever route you choose, it's recommended to hire a local guide for a safe and enjoyable experience.

To reach Jivdhan Fort, you can travel from Pune to Ghatghar and then proceed to the base village. If you're coming from Mumbai, Kalyan Railway Station is the best starting point. From there, take a bus to Malshej Ghat and get down at Tokawade Village. A share rickshaw or jeep will take you to the starting point of the trek.

As you embark on this adventure, remember to carry essential trekking gear, pack enough water and snacks, and be mindful of the weather conditions. The fort is open to the general public from 6 AM to 6 PM, and entry is free.
