welcome back. In this video, we're going to show you how a hockey stop is done on ice skates. It's a fundamental skill in hockey and session skating and a great way to stop quickly and safely on the ice. ( also spray a nice cloud of ice )

[Step 1: Get in the Right Position] Before you start, make sure you have the right equipment on – skates that fit well then potentially helmet, and pads if you don’t feel confident at first. Then, you need to get in the right position. Bend your knees slightly and keep your back straight. Your weight should be evenly distributed between both feehockey stop in ice skates. It's a fundamental skill in hockey and a great way to stop quickly and safely on the ice.


[Step 2: Turn Your Toes 90 degrees ] Next, turn both of your toes outward at about a 90 - degree angle so they both face the same way and your skates are side on to the direction you are skating. This will create the correct position with your skates.

[Step 3: Dig In Your Edges] Now,progressively dig in your edges by leaning away from the direction you are skating to create. Use your legs to push outwards and create friction against the ice. As you do this, you'll start to slow down and come to a stop. When you become more proficient you will be able to spray the ice higher and use the stop in many different ways. I share a few examples at the end of this video.

[Step 4: Practice and Improve] Remember, it takes time and practice to master the hockey stop. Start slowly, and gradually increase your speed as you become more confident. Try it from different angles and on both sides to improve your balance and control. I found using the barrier to hold onto when starting was useful though remember to slide equally on both feet.
