Retired detective Damian Loone has taken DNA evidence around the world to be tested, he’s negotiated with armed hostage takers and he’s investigated the disappearance of three-year-old Cheryl Grimmer. But the case that took the wind out of him was that of the 2014 Lindt Cafe Siege - where 18 people were held hostage by a lone gunman in Sydney’s CBD, and he was among those first on scene.
