The days of taking 30 minutes or more to light your Big Green Egg or Kamado Joe are over!

With a few quick tips and a handy tool, you'll be eating a delicious meal from your Big Green Egg in the time it would normally take to heat it up.

Step 1. Make sure your Egg is good and clean. Pro tip: Using a Kick Ash Basket makes keeping your Egg clean a breeze and it also increases the airflow into your grill making it heat up faster and cook more consistently.

Step 2. Use quality lump charcoal. We love using Fogo black, but there are other quality charcoals out there... just avoid cheap bargain bin charcoal because it doesn't burn as clean and often has a weird taste.

Step 3. Open both top and bottom vents all the way up.

Step 4. Light Charcoal in 4 locations for 1 minute each with a JJGeorge Grill Torch. Light at the 10, 1, 4, and 7 o'clock positions.

Step 5. Close lid and prep your meat for 5-6 minutes while your grill heats up.

Step 6. Once your grill is at 350°F or your desired temperature, adjust your upper and lower vents to the normal places you would leave them when cooking.

Step 7. Throw your meat on the Egg or Kamado and enjoy a tasty meal!
