For this task I had to create a 'sonification' of an object or thing. My chosen object was a yo-yo. I thought about somehow getting sensors in the yo-yo that wirelessly communicated with the computer. This ultimately would either be very expensive or completely weight down the yo-yo making it un-playable. So, a light up yo-yo was used, and by using max MSP I create a programme which tracked the yo-yo via my laptops webcam. A grid system was used, so that when the software sensed a high light value in a certain corner of the 'screen' it would trigger a sound or change the pitch of a synth. The result is a quite accurate sonic representation of the yo-yo performance. So when the you-yo is thrown down, a synth with decreasing pitch is heard and vice-versa.
