Human Activities Endangering Lives Of Borneon Elephants

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, human activities such as agriculture and mining on the island of Borneo are causing significant harm to the Borneon elephants, leading to their potential extinction. Only about 1,000 of these animals remain on the South Asian island. The IUCN has assessed their risk of extinction and placed them on the "Red List". Wildlife experts predict that the Bornean elephants could vanish soon if immediate conservation measures are not implemented. These elephants, which are generally smaller than their African counterparts, have witnessed a decline over the past 75 years. To help these animals, the authorities are now planning to create corridors for these elephants to move safely between fragmented areas of their habitat.
