BUDDYMOON DAY 335/1000 (VLOG 81)

After spending a week in Karachi, Pakistan, it was time for us to leave for a new city in Pakistan called, Lahore. Lahore is further north and close to the Wagha-Attari border, the only international border between Pakistan and India.

We headed to Lahore via plane, as a bus ride would take 16 hours, and seeing that we are only spending 2 weeks in Pakistan this would take too much time. The Cheapest flight to Lahore from Karachi was with Air Blue, which was about $80 per person for a one-way ticket.

Once we arrived in Lahore, we called a taxi using the Careem app. This app is by far the best when looking for transport in Pakistan. Once getting the taxi at Allama Iqbal International Airport, we travelled through an area called CANTT and this is where things started to get a little uneasy.

We were stopped by the army as they wanted to see our passports. We handed them over (Keeping in mind that we had ALL the correct documents in order to be in Pakistan). After exchanging a few words, we had to give our passports to another officer who decided to KEEP our passports... and this is when we began to panic!! And to make matters worse, we had no idea what was happening as nobody could really speak English.

At this point, we were told to leave with the taxi while the army kept our passports. This was a big NO for us, we didn't want to leave our passports! But what choice did we actually have? Our Careem driver then explained to us that the area we were driving through is CANTT, meaning that this area was part of the military, and tourists are not allowed there. The driver had to make a U-turn to get out of the area, and once we got back to the military checkpoint, they return our passports.

It's moments like these where you become worried about what's happening due to the language barrier, but we also understand that the army is just protecting the area in order to make sure it's safe. We want Pakistan to be a safe place, not only for its people but for tourists as well.
