Empire was one of the biggest TV series even here in Nigeria - so big that even Jussie Smollett’s gay character was loved here.

And at the height of his fame, a scandal hit: he was alleged to have been attacked by two white supremacist Trump supporters. They turned out to be Nigerian brothers.

The backlash was swift. Smollett was kicked off Empire. The police arrested him and the brothers. He has been sued to court and convicted.

Weeks after his conviction was upheld by an Illinois court, I sat down for an exclusive interview with one of the two Nigerian brothers, AbimBola Osundairo - to talk about how international scandal that completely changed his life, what it taught him about America, how his family responded to this, and why he feels he let down his morals and values.
