We still can’t believe this exists in Arizona!! Fossil Creek is one of the only wild and scenic rivers in the state. It’s an oasis in the desert: natural springs gush out 20,000 gallons of crystal clear water every minute. The calcium carbonate in the water makes it appear crystal blue! The creek also deposits travertine and fossilizes anything in its path, hence the name.

In this video we do 2 hikes that often get confused:

1. Waterfall Hike, the 2 mile, easy out and back hike that takes you to a naturally occurring waterfall.

2. Fossil Springs Trail, now called Bob Bear trail, is a strenuous 9 mile out and back hike with over 1600 feet of elevation gain that takes you to a decommissioned now overflowing dam. There are also caves to explore and embrace your inner mermaid. My brother and his wife joined us for this one. It's a butt kicker on the way out of the canyon (with total exposure to the sun) but it's sooo worth it!

We went in April and it was already pretty warm. Please be extra careful in the summer on these trails- the sun is no joke and there is little shade, especially on Bob Bear! And be sure to leave no trace :)
