The Costa Concordia was a cruise liner that ran aground on January 13, 2012. I narrate the events leading up to the disaster, the aftermath, and the salvage operation.

The captain of the Costa Concordia, Francesco Schettino, is blamed for the disaster. Schettino had deviated from the planned route in order to sail closer to the island of Giglio, Italy. The ship struck a rock, puncturing a hole in the hull and causing the ship to take on water. Schettino abandoned ship before all the passengers had been evacuated.

Thirty-two people died in the disaster. The Costa Concordia was eventually refloated and towed away from Giglio. The salvage operation took five years and cost $1.2 billion.
