To ensure safe driving, the province enforces some of the strictest laws against impaired driving (alcohol or drugs), careless driving, stunt driving, fleeing police, and other serious offenses. Penalties for these violations include lengthy suspensions, hefty fines (up to tens of thousands of dollars), reinstatement fees, license restrictions, lifetime bans, and even jail time.
