This Opener from July 1998 introduced by veteran Anchor Jim Waley and including the news of the day and week together with the week's "Cover Story" .. "The Rise of Pauline Hanson" to be reported by Ross Coulthard.

Pauline Hanson's newly formed "One Nation" party had won 11 seats in the Queensland Election just a month earlier .. and this "Cover Story" aired 3 months before the October Federal Election of 1998 in an atmosphere of trepidation that she and the party would be a real threat to the Howard Government retaining power taking votes away from the traditional conservative base. Ironically though Hanson would loose her Federal seat of Oxley at that very election 12 weeks later but she managed to dent the Liberal majority as the Howard Government lost 14 seats .. Labor picking up 18 .. One Nation - NIL.
