How deep is deep time?

The Outer Hebrides - the largest island of Harris Lewis is almost entirely ancient 3 billion year old gneiss - metamorphosed igneous rock that was formed in the dawn of the planets creation ..has survived recycling of induction and the oldest rock in Europe and close to be the oldest in the world. An amazing landscape some 3 billion years old.

And a landscape used in the film 2001 Space Odyssey for the alien world through the star gate, this video explores deep time and the stunning landscape of the island. Geology is fun and a fabulous subject to learn to enhance your travels across Scotland and enrich your hiking experience as you explore the mountains and moors.

Note, I'm not a geologist but I love geology and film making... for real geologist who make videos check out
