Dr. Coleman Dennehy takes a look at crime and punishment in the later 17th Century in Ireland and in particular the legal workings of the Tipperary palatine under the Butlers using the Clonmel assize books to illustrate how the modern perception of seventeenth century justice may need to be revised.
