Hong Kong will study how it can tighten sponsorship requirements for mega events, after football superstar Lionel Messi failed to play in a widely anticipated friendly on Sunday. Messi sat out of the match due to an inflamed hamstring. Organiser Tatler Asia had promoted Messi extensively in the weeks leading up to the match, which attracted fans from across the region. It received about $1.92 million in funds for the match on top of a venue subsidy. Tatler Asia has expressed disappointment that Messi did not play, claiming that it wasn’t informed of his non-participation.
