Jessica Williams's paintings engage the unexpected mysteries of everyday subjects and the phenomena of sense memory and desire. Often working directly from personal and found photographs, her layered and painterly interiors, portraits, and landscapes address the artist's desire to harness the memory of subjects and distill them into representation as paintings. At once distanced and personal, contemplative and loose, strange and familiar, her works disrupt narrative function and tease the delicate order of observation. They record her conversation with the world, a complex reciting and repeating of singular images.

Williams received her MFA from Columbia University in 2008, her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2005, and attended the Oxbow Summer School of Art in 2004. She has exhibited in solo and group shows across the United States and has an upcoming solo show at Young Art, Los Angeles in November. She will show work with the gallery at NADA Miami in December. She lives and works in Los Angeles.
